I bought this book because I am an English teacher at Logan High School in Utah where Jackson graduated. I read about his book in the local newspaper. I did not know Jackson (he graduated before I taught at Logan), but the write-up intrigued me and I bought the book. I read it in two days - couldn't put it down. Great read for anyone passionate about teaching. Inspirational and funny as well. I queried teachers who taught Jackson - sounds like he was well-liked and a character as a student. This book provides a powerful glimpse into the experience of a hopeful and sincere man, an accidental teacher, in a rural, poverty stricken, and racially charged area. It is funny, honest, painfully tragic, and very telling. Educators everywhere can/should benefit from these pages. I highly recommend this read.
