We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs... attending the same events…sharing mutual acquaintances…yet we’d never actually met. Until…we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before. But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him. Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two things twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up. After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name. Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most – a Do-Over with Wes

I've been in a drought lately. This title was emailed to me, and I'd never heard of the author before. It's been hard to find anything decent to read lately, so I was wary but intrigued by the blurb. This book was great. The H & h are in their late 30's, which was nice, meeting again 15 years after spending night together talking. Not shagging, also nice. The shagging comes later. This is a touching, heartfelt story. There is some conflict and heartbreak and there is an issue woven into the telling that affects just about everyone I know to some degree. But it's handled gorgeously. Very poignant but also hopeful. Take a chance on it. It's everything a second-chance romance should be.**spoiler** For anyone like me who doesn't want to be unexpectedly slapped by cancer in a story line, know that a secondary character in this book has breast cancer.

The DoOver Julie A Richman 9781942215530 Books Reviews
Traveling the same circles. Been to the same shows. Loved the same music, movies and more. Over the years Tara and Wes have been to and done the same things but never met. They were literally separated by one degree. How is that possible? Well, they meet and fate wasn't ready, but she was cruel. They fall for each other and fall hard, only to be separated by time and a mean sister. The second time they meet again it is nerve racking and a total surprise. When he walks in with his best friend it was petrifying. See fate is cruel and as time had passed by before Tara saw Wes again, she was in the dating world again after her failed marriage. What do we do when we get divorced? We start dating and learn from our mistakes. Tara's mistake was Wes's bestie.
Talk about bomb shells. Don't fret we get a happily Ever After. but it is one that is fought for.
This beautiful journey is one that won't let you put it down. No I inhaled this on one day. I started reading when I woke my daughter up for school and finished in as I was on the tread mill working out late that same day. A book that begs to be read again and bask in the glow of a second chance at love and hope. Throw in a Tiara and we have an Epic love story!
The Do-Over by Julie Richman
4.5 stars!!!
“Wes Bergman knew exactly what he had just done. It was finally our time.”
Julie Richman never fails to deliver for me, she has this uncanny knack of bringing real life characters, in real life situations to life with ease. With normal struggles, normal feelings and situations you can relate to without all the pomp, glitz and glamour. Her knack for digging into every emotional fibre I possess is still ever present and without a doubt is still a certainty to make me cry in every single book, such is the emotional connection I always have with her characters and once again, she didn’t disappoint.
“With Wes, it was like he was intricately woven through my heart and soul in a way that could never be separated without irreparable damage being done…”
Another thing I love about a Julie Richman book…my generation…couples in their thirties and forties that still deserve their happy ever after. As much as I love reading about my younger counterparts, to witness a love story where the couples are older and wiser is refreshing and is something that my heart can relate to even more than usual. This age group is not so well presented in the romance genre, but when one does come along I grab it with both hands.
Julie Richman is a mature writer, her style I can always identify just by reading a few paragraphs, life experience floods through every page and as such a lot of the immature problems that often litter romance reads are never present. I love the way that she builds up her stories, always enough background to whet every appetite and one that garners a great understanding of her characters. While her pace is never fast, every, slow, delicious chapter is one that I digest with glee as these characters become my friends and Julie Richman takes you along as a willing voyeur for the ride.
We normally all have the “one that got away.” That one person you meet, or maybe had a relationship with but for some reason it didn’t work out at the time. The one that you always wonder...what if? Your lives may not have been aligned at the time, but the connection always stays. The soul mate, the one that you always look back on as a benchmark for others. A connection unrivalled no matter how fleeting. That was the case for Wes Bergman and Tara Collins. I don’t want to go into details because the synopsis says enough but once again, Julie Richman gives you a story from the heart, a story for the heart. This is a real romance story, no gratuitous sex, just deep and meaningfuls (apart from a one night stand before they meet).
“Tara and I tend to travel the same path one degree of separation apart, and at times, our paths converge. This is one of those times.”
This is when fate and kismet grants you a do-over. Will it live up to expectations, are the pedestals a figment of imagination or is the person truly worthy. Is that connection still there? Still electric? Still combustible? Is that soul connection a dream or a reality, will twenty years erase it, is it forgotten? What happens when for once, your lives are aligned?
“This is a gift. It really is. You see, you were the best boyfriend I never had.”
Julie Richman delivers a heart-warming and heart-destroying read. Where bumps are there to test and Julie’s exquisite emotional words wring every tear from your tear ducts with effortless ease. Julie Richman’s knack to make me cry went into overload in this book as she tests our couple’s strength and makes them stronger. If you are a weeper like me, you will need tissues, but these are speedbumps, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger after all. A stunning read once again, one that played out in vivid emotional technicolour and once again, characters that you will be reticent to leave behind.
“Thank God we got a do-over.”
I didn't think Julie Richman could continue the amazingly unique and mystical richness of Mia and Schooner's amazing 2nd chance at love. But with The Do-Over, and Tara and Wes' chance meeting and then unbelievable chance re-meeting after many years, it was kismet. Realizing that they'd been mere miles away from each other for many of the years they'd been apart since their chance meeting, Tara and Wes waste no time in making up for all those lost years. Until one fateful piece of truth drive an immovable mountain between them. I must admit that I am still just a little perturbed at Wes' rude and disrespectful behavior towards Tara when he learns of the huge regret that Tara experienced. Granted, the sudden and tragic circumstances that took over his life was the depths of despair and heartbreak, but the hateful mountain wall he put between himself and Tara was just devastating. The amazing strength and fortitude that Tara showed upon believing she'd lost the one chance she'd ever had a true happiness, was simply breathtaking. And when Wes came to his senses my discouragement with him lessened a bit, but a small taste has remained. But Tara totally forgave and forgot, and so must I. So, instead, I focus on the magic that Ms Richman wove into the storyline by sharing a little taste of Mia & Schooner (and even Seth) with us in the first third of the book, and even some subtle reminders of their legacy throughout the telling of Wes and Tara's Do-Over. I know she just delivered this one, but I simply cannot wait until the next book, and I hope that no illness or peril shall enter Ms Richman's life as it did before she was able to finalize this one!
